Able Remote Changing Android Version Support to 2.2

Here are the current stats for the various Android versions that users of the mobile version of Able Remote are running.

When we started the project, we wanted to support as many different Android versions as possible. Up to now we have been able to keep supporting Android 1.6 and newer. However, there are various technical improvements we want to make to Able Remote that will not work on the older versions of Android. So we have decided to move the minimum supported version up to Android 2.2. This will only affect 2.4% of the current users. All users with version 2.2 or later are not affected by this. We hope you understand that this decision is only motivated by our aim to keep improving Able Remote. This change will take affect in the next update for Able Remote.

Able Remote Gaming View

We’ve received requests from Able Remote users to support some kind of gaming view that would include common navigation actions and useful buttons for playing games on Google TV.

We have some ideas on what this might look like including support for landscape mode and having the navigation controls on both the left and right side of the screen.

Also, Able Remote already supports various gestures that could be reused in the gaming view.

We would like to hear from any gamers about their ideas on what they would like to see in such a view. Please give us your feedback and we will consider all of your ideas for an upcoming Able Remote release.

Able Remote 2.0 Back in the Android Market

Google appears to be rolling out a fix for their in-app billing issues. Google has released a new version of their Market app today (version 3.4.4). If you don’t have that version, then launch the Market app, go to My Apps and then get out of the Market app. That seems to trigger an update within a few minutes.

Several users have reported that in-app billing now works for them in Able Remote. So give it try.
